Template pack
The working documents behind this whitepaper: value proposition canvas by segment, segment conflict lines, the three piles, technical path recommendation, operational feasibility sheet, dependency sequence, business model canvas as claims, unit economics sheet, monetization hypotheses sheet, three-circle segment selection, internal data reading, and the what-has-to-be-true list.
- Is there a template for startup unit economics?
- What is a monetization hypotheses template?
- How do you structure a business design session?
§The body kept the mechanics out. This is the mechanics. Each template is a skeleton, and each one exists to produce rows for the single list in chapter 12.
§ A.11. Value proposition canvas, per segment#
§One per segment. Customer side: jobs, pains, gains, each with a quote and interview code. Product side: products and services, pain relievers, gain creators. For every -side item, the customer-side evidence, or the word "assumption" and an owner. Strategyzer's canvas, named as such.
§ A.22. Segment conflict lines#
§One line per pair of segments whose jobs pull apart. A gains. B pays. Has B agreed, in an interview? If not: who asks, by when. Then, for the first version, one sentence: which side it serves, what the other is asked to bear.
§ A.33. Three piles#
§Every value signal from the pages, sorted. Would pay: with quote and code. Would never pay: with quote and code. Gave freely: with quote and code, marked so that no monetization front charges for it or pays for it. given and dodged, per segment.
§ A.44. Technical path recommendation#
§One page, written by whoever will build. Options considered, two or three. For each: cost to first version, cost to run per user (model, calls, price stated), what it commits to, what it forecloses. The one-way doors respected. Recommendation with trade-offs. Ends "subject to the team's judgment."
§ A.55. Operational feasibility sheet#
§One row per operational surface the first version touches: floor, kitchen, support, partner. Asked to do. Number it must absorb. Shown or said. For each "said": the discovery- conversation or concierge test that will show it, owner, date. Support load per hundred users, estimated, with who carries it.
§ A.66. Dependency sequence#
§Three columns: depends on no one; depends on something shown; depends on something failed or never shown. Each act placed, with its dependencies and their status. Promotion criterion for everything in the third column. Appetite per act, in weeks. One-way doors behind which nothing is scheduled until the holds.
§ A.77. Business model canvas, as claims#
§Nine boxes, two or three claims each, every claim with a number or "assumption." Revenue streams as mechanisms. Cost structure with per-user costs separated from fixed. Key resources marked own or borrow; for each borrowed, what happens if the partner withdraws. Key activities performed outside the team, with the sheet-5 number.
§ A.88. Unit economics sheet#
§The unit, named. Cost to acquire one. Cost to serve one per period, with the AI line stated as model, calls and price. Return per period. Period, and why it is defensible. The two or three assumptions the arithmetic turns on, each with an owner. Built as a reverse income statement when there is no data: the return the business needs, then what each line must be.
§ A.99. Monetization hypotheses sheet#
§One line per front that applies: who pays, for what, how much, how packaged. Per line: , number, evidence so far, test method and date. Value metric, confirmed not in the gave-freely pile. Three-number conversation results per segment: acceptable, expensive, prohibitive. The smallest market test before launch, with owner.
§ A.1010. Three circles#
§Per segment: desire (commitments, quotes), willingness to pay (pile and conversation), serviceable by the first version (column from sheet 6). The overlap, in one sentence. If empty for act one: what act one builds, who pays for it, and the date the overlap becomes non-empty. Segments excluded, with reasons.
§ A.1111. Internal data reading#
§Per hypothesis on the list: the number it was read against, its source, and the outcome: supported, contradicted, silent. Contradicted: the rewritten number and downstream sheets redone. Silent: the test that will move it. Data brought extracted, before the session.
§ A.1212. What has to be true#
§The list. One row per hypothesis. Claim, falsifiable. Number, the threshold. Evidence, or "assumption." Owner. Date and method. Confidence as a percentage. Sorted by what kills first. Top rows dated this week. Two pages. Read weekly. Kept with the ladder's goals.
Every template here produces rows for one list. If a template did not produce a row with a number, it was decoration.
